On responsibilities

We’re going through a time where we need to collate all our data for books published until September, with the aim that by collating it, we’ve got one place to look. It does need doing: there's files buried everywhere, and it takes up to twenty minutes to look for a piece of data that could be found at a glance. However, I’ve been allocated the team leader role for collating all the editorial data.
That's right, they've chosen the month-old noob. Those poor sods.
So, to look forward to, I have until July 14th to:
- get all data on 650 titles;
- ensure all new titles have soft copies of signed contracts – lots of scanning to PDF there – and send copies of any that our big brother in the States doesn’t have. This could be anywhere up to twenty;
- go through about one hundred submissions;
- sort out Advance Information for fifteen titles;
- and take any calls and emails that come my way in the meantime, whether they relate to editorial or not (they often don’t).
Today I have learned that editorial assistants have much more to do than simply go through submissions.
Phew...
