Given the new and improved career magnificence, I would like to turn this into a blog of kinds - a newbie's guide to publishing, if you will. When I was doing my degree there were professionals who could and did give some little nuggets of great advice, but when it came to what being in editorial was like, advice on looking for a job and surviving in publishing was thin on the ground. My own personal experience of getting this job par excellence was pure luck.
I've had a look through Tom Reynolds' excellent advice on blogging about work, and it appears that through leaving out names, works in progress and the similarly obvious, it is possible. I've gotten by fine using (nice) aliases, and obviously will continue to do so.
But of course there'll be times when I have bad days and frustrating times, and I feel unless I'm very careful it could become libel heaven. I don't intend to bitch by any means, but, well, there's always a chance something could be taken the wrong way. The most sensible thing would be to make it friends-only just to cover my ass a bit more, but the thing is... I don't have many friends on here yet, and I really want to get it out to as many people as possible.
What advice would you give to a newbie?
