I do stupid things when I'm tired.
May. 31st, 2008 01:01 amSo far tonight I have spilled rice milk all over the sofa, sneezed into the jam, forgotten to eat for 24 hours, not noticed the Mac battery chirrup and die and spent a full 40 minutes trying to work out exactly what my hands smelled pleasantly of (work soap, books, newspaper print and the nearby launderette; and by an uncanny coincidence, almost exactly like one of my lovers). I also accidentally chopped up one of our bestselling authors' signature for file labels (the author in question is over 75, lives in the States and is practically worshipped by their readers, so there aren't that many free signatures in circulation).
Oh, and we also have two weeks to organise three hours' worth of audio recordings that are meant to go to press by the middle of June. Actually, scratch that; I have two weeks to organise it. I'm looking forward to my boss coming back. She is sound and experienced and doesn't mind a noob's questions. And thank fuck for that, as my predecessor, while on all accounts was/is rather nice, appears to have forgotten to leave a list of tasks that were left behind and needed to be done, and they're now all popping up with team members looking puzzled and asking, "Do you know anything about this?" So, I'm currently acting as a liaison between one of our more popular authors and a recording studio. I'm trying not to think that I'm in way over my head. To be honest, I figured I'd just be working on rejections. Talking with authors - especially ones with such clout in fields I have a personal interest in - leads to a befuddled, nervous state of mind perilously close to starfucking.
It is fun, though. Oh, it's fun. I'm just not used to the return to full time hours yet.
